sooooooo
things are pretty good with tony
we've definitely had a LOT of rough patches
as in about every other day we're fighting
but we're both cancers
and we're both irish
so i guess its kinda of expected
stubborn and argumentative and we don't always get along
go figure.
but lately we've been getting along
which is gooooood
and then the other night he kind of dropped a bomb
but i'm not really sure
so he told me he has HPV possibly
he's never actually been checked,
so its not a for sure thing
but (believe it or not) since we haven't had sex yet
he wanted to tell me beforehand
i've been reading up on it but medical jarble isn't my style
can you tell me just how at risk this whole thing is?
i know it can cause wart type things and really bad can cause cancer
but should we be using condoms even tho i'm on BC
or is it safe not to?
just all opinions would be appreciated
thanks

A) Hi.
B) Get him tested!
C) If I remember correctly, there's actually a vaccine for women for that, but I think it only protects against one type of it... and there are hundreds. But since it is also known to cause cervical cancer, it's essentially a vaccine against cancer! Yay! I know the shot is free here (you have to get it 3 times) but then again, so is all medical care! :)
D) Just did a quick Google search, most people don't even KNOW they have it, so why does he think he does?
E) For Emily. :)

OH MY GOD.
Let me tell you a little story here...
I work in a medical centre. I take blood tests all day. Most of those blood tests from women under the age of 30 are for STD's.
Nothing protects you against them except not having sex.
Since you won't be taking that approach let me say one more thing:
ALWAYS use a condom.
Just because you're on BC it only means you can't catch a baby.
You can catch sooo much other stuff.
Dude.
Seriously.
Use one.
At least until you're really serious with him then get both of you checked. If he's all clear and doesn't have sex outside of your relationship, then you may let go of the condoms.
Otherwise, I'm telling you right now, most of the time these things show a positive for one thing or another.
Also, if he does have it (has he had it in the past and that's why he's saying this... or does he have some type of sore or leasion?) just because it looks like it has gone away doesn't mean it has.
The only way to know is to go get checked out.
Have YOU had an STD screen lately?
If you're not using condoms you should my lady.
Okay.
Peace out.
